Two tips to follow when renovating multiple bathrooms in your home

by Rodney Cook

If you have several bathrooms in your home and plan to have all of them renovated, here are some tips to follow.

Consider doing them one after the other instead of concurrently

Because bathroom renovations involve lots of noise, disruption and dust, it's understandable that you might want to get all of your home's bathrooms finished in one fell swoop. However, it might be wiser to do them concurrently instead.

There are a few reasons to consider doing this. If, for example, you have two bathrooms, renovating them concurrently will mean that you and your family will have one working bathroom throughout all of the renovations. You should not underestimate how helpful this could be and how much stress it could alleviate during the project. You won't, for example, have to travel to the gym for a shower or ask your neighbours if you can use their toilet, and you'll be able to easily maintain your normal hygiene routine.

Secondly, renovating the bathrooms concurrently will mean that mishaps are likely to occur that could complicate the project. For example, there won't be any chance of the materials for one bathroom being left in, and then accidentally used in the other bathroom, which is an error that could extend your project, as you would then have to remove and refit these materials in the correct bathroom.

Try to use some of the same materials in all of the bathrooms

If the bathrooms that you're renovating differ in layout and size, then you'll almost certainly have to use some different versions of the same features for each one, such as a large sink in your main bathroom and a compact one in your en-suite. However, where possible, it's worth using the same materials in all of the bathrooms. For example, it might be possible to use the same wall tiles in every bathroom.

The reason for this is that this could make the renovations much cheaper. This is because buying the same item, such as wall tiles, in bulk tends to cost less than buying two versions of that item in smaller quantities (particularly if your contractor is able to obtain these materials for you from a wholesaler). It will also mean that you can safely keep these renovation materials stored in the same place, without worrying that you'll confuse the ones that are meant to be used in one bathroom with the ones that are to be used in the other bathroom.
